KOTA KINABALU, 19 April 2026 — A devastating fire in Kampung Bahagia, Sandakan, has left thousands of families homeless, turning the incident into one of the most heartbreaking tragedies the town has faced.
The blaze, which broke out around 1.30am, spread rapidly through the tightly packed settlement of wooden stilt houses, leaving families with little time to escape as flames engulfed entire rows of homes.
Terrifying moment when one of the houses was engulfed in flames, a place once filled with warmth suddenly turning into a scene of destruction.
Painful aftermath as the same home is left damaged. Families are now left with emotional scars and the difficult task of rebuilding their lives from almost nothing.
