Update On Masjid Al Eido Rehabilitation

This masjid and the buildings around it were once heavily damaged and left unusable after years of conflict that devastated the surrounding area. Repeated airstrikes and prolonged fighting caused severe structural damage, broken floors, shattered walls, and interiors that were no longer safe to enter.

Like many civilian spaces, the masjid was not spared. As families were forced to flee, it was abandoned and left exposed to further deterioration over time.

The destruction was not the result of neglect, but of sustained violence that turned places of worship, learning, and community into silent ruins. With the community displaced, the masjid stood empty for years, its condition worsening with each passing season.

Today, Syria has been liberated, and people are returning home.

With liberation comes the urgent responsibility to rebuild what was destroyed. For many communities, restoring a masjid is among the first steps in reclaiming a sense of normalcy, a place for prayer, gathering, and mutual support.

Restoring a masjid is not simply about repairing a building.
It is about preparing a space for people to return.

Before prayers could resume at Masjid Eido, reconstruction began from the ground up; repairing damaged floors, stabilising weakened walls, realigning prayer spaces, and restoring essential structural elements. Cracked and broken walls were carefully assessed, reinforced, and rebuilt where necessary to ensure the structure was safe and stable. Every section was measured, cleaned, reconstructed, and checked so the masjid could once again be functional, secure, and dignified for worshippers.

This reconstruction was made possible by donations from people who chose to give when rebuilding truly mattered.

However, the work is not yet complete.

Additional repairs, finishing works, and essential improvements are still needed for Masjid Eido to fully serve as a place of worship and a community space for families returning after years of displacement.

Every contribution has brought the masjid this far. Continued support will help complete what has already begun.

This is how a damaged building becomes a living masjid again.
